That's just the way it goes

I lost contact with two pretty good friends lately because of opposing political views. Why? I don't know. I thought as friends, we were supposed to accept our differences and continue to be friends. I think most people know my political views so we won't get into that. But I told Jordan about it and he made me realize something, take politics out of the equation and I won't lose any more friends. Here I am defending my rights and standing up for what I believe in, and in the end, I get the short end of the stick and lose what few friends I actually have. Internet friends or not too. So that's it. I'm done. I'm keeping my opinions to myself so I won't lose anymore friends.

I guess I'm sorry if this offends anyone but I guess it's you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. That's all I really have to say about that.

I can understand what your saying, but I wouldn't agree. You should be able to express and have opinions of your own without criticism from your friends. I actually had a heated debate with a friend over the election and though she wouldn't speak to me again, things are fine. We agreed to disagree. The subject can still be talked about though. I wouldn't compromise who you are to make others happy. You are you Shea, be proud :) Hang in there though!! Not everyone disagrees with you...

I know. But I honestly think it's a bit childish to cut all ties and delete me from myspace and all that just because we don't have the same political outlook. Kind of how I see it is if they didn't/won't respect my views and leave it at that, we weren't really friends to begin with. I guess.

Oh girl don't you dare back down from what you believe in. If these people were your true friends than it wouldn't matter what your views are. Real friends accept you for who and what your are. How silly of them. And if they are ditching your friendship on the side of the road because of our new CIC then maybe you're better off.

You're right Lori. I shouldn't let thing like that get to me. I should be the bigger person and let it roll off my back. I thought she was a really good friend too. And I think that's what sucks the most.

I'm so sorry hun...that just plain sucks. You should never back down from what you believe in..if people don't like it then I guess they weren't your true friends in the first place. My best friend and I disagree 100% with each other on politics and we are very aware of that. We just let each other say what we have to say then move on..or just not talk about it all. I'm sorry that this wasn't the case for you. Hang in there girl..you've still got all of us!!! :o) *hugs*

That is so sucky :( I hate that for you girl. I hate to hear of anyone loosing friends but expecially over something like this. I cant disowning someone over politics and wouldnt even dream of it! You definatly should not keep your views on the hush. Be who you are and if otheres dont like it, well too dang bad! Stay true to yourself girl and dont censor yourself for anyone <3

a real friend wont judge you because you disagree on things. no one can agree on everything, thats what makes us individuals. i'll be your friend no matter what you say.

Man!!! That is just sucky. I'm a republican and proud of it and I will always stick up for what I believe in. BUT I would never not be friends with someone for what they believe in. Heated discussions are good and they might bring up some really good points you never thought about. Don't stop being yourself girl. If they don't love you for everything you are and everything you believe in they weren't true friends to begin with.
