Buying a house...

Jordan gets out in October so we're going to move back home to Kentucky. He's hoping to get on at the prison out there. I know he needs to go ahead and start making his resume and sending in applications. But he really wants to use unemployment and go to school. But at the same time work a job. Very ambitious, I know.

As much as I wanted to move to Horse Cave or Glasgow when we moved back, Jordan wants to move home to McCreary County. So I've made peace with that. I'm pretty happy to go home. I could get a job and go back to school while Talia, his mammaw or my mom would watch Rosslyn and I know she'd be safe and happy. So recently I started looking at houses to buy. I know little to nothing about buying a house. Other than you get a mortgage for 30+ years and have a mortgage payment each month. Why buy a house when you can rent? Because in the county, it's pretty much people owning the houses and you renting from them. There's almost no lease agreements so it's hard to get out of moving and they can up and change anything they want on you without you knowing. And like I said, if we're gonna live there, why not buy? I was looking around at houses and found one I fell in love with! It's a 3 bedroom 2 bath for 74,000. I'm guessing that's good. But houses go for cheap in the county. I showed it to Jordan, and of course he had complaints. It's not in Strunk or Pine Knot, it doesn't have a front porch, I don't wanna get in debt again after we're almost out. So I don't know what to do. He wants us to buy land and build a house. Where would we live in the mean time? And I'm sure building a house gets a little expensive. Having to have contractors and all that, buying the land...blah blah blah. If I'm making the wrong assumptions about building a house, please correct me. Because like I said, I have no idea.

And then there's how we're going to get a loan for the house. I think we're gonna try to get a VA Loan for whatever we do but I don't know anything about them. If anyone has any info, let me know.

Oh, and here's the house I fell in love with:

Oh that house is so cute! From what I know, that is a great price for 3 bedrooms and 2 baths...almost too good to be true, but I dont know the area. A place like that we're im from would be $130,000+ but its all about the area, school districts and what other houses in teh area are going for. Of course there is so much more to look into but from the outside looking it, it sounds great. We've never bought a house but are thinking about it when we move to AZ and it seems very overwhelming but very worth it, expecially if you guys are moving there for a long period of time. As for the front porch, if everything else is exactly what you guys would want, Jordan might have to look past the small details. Have fun looking and I hope you find a great place!

Thanks! In one picture it looks like there's a back deck. Maybe when we're home for Easter we can go check it out. And if we do buy it, we could build a bigger porch and hopefully he'll be happy! It's a big step and I think we're both hesitant about making it.

Great house!!!! And it seems like it has been taken care of, fresh paint and such. I wouldn't look at buying a house is going into debt. It's a long term investment. And now is probably a good time just because the cost of things are done. I wish you the best of luck. I think you should really talk more serious about it. If you wanted to buy land, you could always rent that home out...so many options!!!

Hey girl...I've got tons of information on real estate, VA loans, etc. that I can get to you. What's your email address? My mama is in real estate so I've been hearing about this kinda stuff for a long time. =) That's prob. a pretty good price for the area (of course you know anywhere in the country back home is cheaper than Lexington/Richmond/Winchester etc.). Buying a house is a good idea though because you're not just throwing away money in rent (which we have done for a LONG time and I'm so ready to not have to do that!!).
