The Big C

Cancer.

It's hit our family again. My step-dad Mike had cancer about 7 years ago. He went through chemo, radiation and even had to have a G-tube put in. but, after countless times of throwing up and countless nights of I'm sure painful sleeping, he beat it. And was fine.

Up until a couple months ago. He had what he thought was a real bad crick in his neck and he couldn't shake it. Then, a growth started to appear. He kept a blanket around his neck so he could watch tv or get on the computer. He never really left the recliner in the living room. Then my mom said he got pretty bad last night and started talking out of his head. So she called an ambulance and they took him to the hospital. and there the doctor confirmed that it indeed was cancer.

He had an MRI but they didn't sedate him so the images didn't show up clearly or something.

The doctor told my mom that out the 4 vertebrae you have hold your neck up, the cancer has eaten through all of it and there's not much protecting his spinal cord and one false move could result in instant death. So he is in a neck brace.

The talk of surgery has been thrown around but I'm not sure about it yet.

Bottom line is he doesn't have much longer. It's just a wait and see right now.

But, on the bright side, he is fully alert now and wide awake and back to the old Mike.

I talked to mom and she said he's made his peace with God so I'm not too worried about him.

It's my mom really. She's never lived by herself and he's all she has. She's going to have to get a job, she may lose the trailer and car. But, like Jordan said, she's grown and we don't have to worry about her. And oddly enough, my mom agreed.

So, if you could send up some prayers for my mom and to make her understand that it's all in God's hands.

Thank you for reading this, I'm sorry it was so long.

My grandmother is going through chemo right now and my mom's blog is a lot about beating cancer, spirituality and finding inspiration in sad times - you might want to check it out the address is lovely-silver-strands.blogspot.com
